What’s New (and Blue) in Gen 2: Polaroid Go.

That’s right, we heard your demands and the world’s smallest instant camera got some shiny new upgrades. Our teeny-tiny camera has always been packed with creative potential, but now we’ve upped its tech-specs to match. Creating our best tool to capture real life on-the-Go. (See what we did there?). Here’s the lowdown on the upgrades – in hopefully the most non-technical way possible.

“Our challenge for the engineers and film team was to create an even better camera in the same small mechanical package.”

– Nick Woodley, Director of Product Design.

All these new features are looking at what our Polaroid Go fans said about the Gen 1 – then running tests, tests and even more tests. Our engineers spent months investigating, tweaking, learning, rinsing and repeating. Including testing the instant camera in all sorts of different environments with indoor and outdoor lighting.

Our team’s primary focus was enhancing the Polaroid Go’s exposure.

But how do you do that? Good question. First on the list was aperture range: the gatekeeper of light entering your camera. The Polaroid Go Generation 2 now goes from F9-F42, instead of F12 to F56. Wider aperture = more light entering the camera = brighter exposures.

As aperture and shutter speed work in harmony, we also bumped the max shutter speed up to 1/300 of a second to complement the aperture changes.

Another crucial factor was looking at the precision of our light sensor. This techy little part reads how much light is in the scene you want to capture. Our team redesigned the light sensor’s positioning and field-of-view, so whatever you’re pointing at is exactly what the camera is picking up. And if you’re pointing at a wider scene, your camera’s wider metering coverage will have it literally looking at the bigger picture.

Put all this together—plus a little firmware update for good measure—and ta-da! The Polaroid Go can now precisely choose the ideal auto-exposure using its single fixed focus lens. That’s next-gen stuff.

Yes, it’s what is on the inside that matters.

But, in this case, the outside too. To celebrate the Polaroid Go Generation 2, we got more colorful and added a new blue colorway to the mix. And the cherry on top: the Polaroid Go Generation 2 is made with 30% recycled materials for a more future-friendly approach.
